'Voodoo Ash Trick Variation Numero 2'

As you can tell from the title of the post, this is another variation of the Voodoo Ash Trick we learned a couple of days ago. The main difference between this version and the other version I posted is the fact that it does not use playing cards. Let me tell you first off that this trick is quite harder than the other version. It involves tons of misdirection and good acting skills. But if you feel comfortable with both of these skills, than it should be made easier for you. The ending of this variation adds quite a bit of a punch compared to the earlier one.

For this trick you need a small notepad, pen, lighter, ashtray, and chap stick.

Effect: The magician hands a small notepad to a spectator and asks them to write the name of someone special on it. They than take the small piece of paper and crumple it up. He than takes a lighter, burns the crumpled piece of paper and takes the ashes from it and rubs it on his arm revealing the name that they had written on the paper.

The ending of this trick is ridiculous because in the mind of the spectator, there is no way possible that the magician could have known before hand what they were going to write down. If you read the previous 'Voodoo Ash Trick', you will know that the magician had written down the name of the card before hand on his arm with chap stick. But how did he know what to write this time. In the other trick he knew because he wrote down the card that he was going to 'force' on to the spectator but this time it is a whole new story.

The secret: As I said at the beginning of the post, there is a need for quite a bit of misdirection. Now, before the trick began, the magician did not write anything down but he had the chap stick handy. It is important to use a pad of paper because when they write down the name and rip the paper off, there should still be an impression left on the next piece of paper. When they are crumpling it up and burning it, you need to write the name very secretly on your arm. Obviously you are not going to do this right in front of them so do it very carefully and use misdirection. You can also spruce up the trick by talking about voodoo and how it works and what not. Really try to sell it. So when they burn it up, you just simply run the ashes over your arm and the ashes should stick to where the chap stick was written.

Note: If you do not feel comfortable yet with your misdirection skills, than this probably isn't the best trick to do yet. Though if you wanted to do it a different way, you could turn around while they are crumpling it up and burning it and write it down then. They are more likely not to see you write it down when you do it this way. It is up to you.
